The NHS in England has mandated the use of PEPPOL for the transfer of business documents (eOrdering, eInvoicing, electronic Credit Notes and Advance Shipping Notifications) between NHS Trusts and their suppliers.
What does PEPPOL offer over the traditional EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) environment?
Using the NHS as an example, for a NHS Trust to trade electronically with it’s suppliers using EDI it would be necessary to set up an individual EDI connection with each supplier. The reverse also applies for suppliers, who would have to set up connections with every buying account.
PEPPOL enables a supplier to establish one PEPPOL connection through which it can trade with not only all NHS Trusts but all PEPPOL-connected trading partners. An NHS Trust likewise can have one single eProcurement link to the outside world, via which they can trade with current and future suppliers.
What do suppliers and awarding bodies need to do to connect via PEPPOL?
Connections are made by partnering with a PEPPOL Access Point, this is a service offered by catalog360 who are an active PEPPOL Access Point Provider.
